Why Project Folders?
By popular demand, you now have the ability to neatly organize all of your designs and print files directly inside the Design Library. The need for this feature came out of our users having large numbers of files to 'sift' through, which means they needed a good way to organize those files.
Our solution is quite simple: Project Folders.
As always, if you have any suggestions on improving the workflow and making this feature more intuitive, please let us know via our forums.
Enough chitter chatter, so how the heck do you actually use Project Folders?
It’s quite simple. Let's walk through the process.
Creating a new Project Folder
Step 1 - Open your Design Library
First, log in to your dashboard via AstroPrint.com. Then, fire up the Design Library.
Step 2 - Add your New Project Folder
Click the ADD PROJECT button located on the upper right-hand corner of the Projects column. Name your New Project folder, then click the green check mark. Don't worry too much about the name, you can rename the folder later, no problem.
Step 3 - Check out your new Project Folder!
Click on your new Project to see a list of files stored within the project. Note: You can put Design Files (STL) and/or Print Files (GCODE, X3G) in a Project folder.
Moving designs into Project Folders
Next, let's move an existing Design File into a Project Folder.
Step 1 - Select the file, Select MOVE TO
First, select the file you wish to put in the folder. Take a look at the Additional Options menu at the bottom of the screen. From there click on MOVE TO. BTW, this menu also has options for Editing the Filename, Deleting, Making Notes, Downloading, and more.
Step 2 - Select a destination Project Folder
Next, select the appropriate Project Folder from the dropdown list, then click MOVE TO. And.... You're done, it's that simple!
Removing designs from Projects
If you’d like to remove a file from a Project Folder, it's quite simple to do. Just go through the same process as above. However, when you are selecting the destination Project Folder, select the NO PROJECT option. The file will now appear under Designs (if it is an STL) or under Print Files (if it is a GCODE or X3G).
Deleting Projects
Warning: If you remove/delete a Project Folder containing design files and/or print files, you will delete all of those files as well! Just in case you accidentally pressed “Delete” on a Project folder, you’ll be asked for confirmation.
Step 1 - Select the Project Folder to delete
First select the Project Folder you wish to delete. Then click the Delete button in the bottom right menu.
Step 2 - WARNING and Verification
Next, verify you wish to delete the folder AND DELETE ALL OF THE DESIGN FILES (STLs) AND PRINT FILES (GCODEs, X3Gs) ASSOCIATED WITH THAT FOLDER! Once you hit the Delete button, you're done!
That’s it!
You have just become a much more organized human being!
