While it is nice that the cloud pages at AstroPrint can connect to the local IP address of the AB, which I assume is published by the AB....It would be nice to have a Configuration box in the printer setup that allows one to specify a Domain Name or IP address and a Port Number. This would be totally optional but would then be used perhaps on a second attempt when connecting to the AstroBox from the AstroPrint Cloud site (ie try the local published IP and default port if that shows no connection try the info in the setup box)...this way those of us that have port mapped Firewalls/Routers could still click through and connect to their AstroBox.
Doing this as a second attempt allows those with just a local connection to function as before. And those with a port mapped but not looped back router setup to continue as normal but if they happen to be on a remote network and things are setup properly they could still connect to the AB while off LAN.
The need to connect to the box direct remains until we can get a way to print g-code files uploaded direct to the AB (Ie from a non-cloud slicer) from the AstroPrint Cloud page....maybe even better would be a way to allow the cloud system to include in it's file manager the Astrobox local files just like the local file manager can work with Cloud G-codes..of offer a way to mimic a Astrobox and API key so the slicers can upload directly to the Cloud...or of course web support for more slicers...which I know is on the road map.
This is a minor inconvenience in that I can have a link to the Astrobox in my browser but it would be nice....and I think a minor add compared to the alternatives.
